CONCEPT
The Royal British Legion, along with the partners, wanted a poppy shaped nautical vessel to hold supporters handwritten messages of condolence. The Royal British Legion needed to raise charitable funds by showcasing an artwork that inspired the public to donate and take part in the initiative. The piece needed to float, then sink to the ocean floor over the Battle of Jutland national heritage site deployed by the Royal Navy. The National Maritime Museum and BAE Systems wanted an artwork to promote the Battle of Jutland exhibition before deployment in Orkney.

OUTCOME
Designed and built a centenary public bronze sculpture to commemorate the battle of Jutland and raise donations. Dedicated by HRH The Duke of York, deployed by the Royal Navy at the protected wreckage site of HMS Invincible after a group show at the National Maritime Museum.

“A REMEMBRANCE COPPER AND BRASS POPPY CAPSULE, FLOATS ON THE WATER, THEN SINKS BENEATH THE WAVES, FULL OF SUPPORTER HANDWRITTEN MESSAGES.
